4.0 out of 5 stars Good value scanner for business cards

By Kindle Customeron January 15, 2012

I bought this scanner solely to scan business cards. It has a slot that is about 4 inches wide so it would probably not be very useful for scanning much else. It does a pretty good job of scanning cards - the software that comes with the scanner is dedicated to business card scanning and keeps an image of the business card as well as doing OCR and assigning the recognized text to various fields (name, position, address, etc.). It only does a fair job of getting the data off the card but it is fairly easy to edit the OCR and reassign the fields. A nice feature is that it can scan in various languages - if the right language is selected it does a better job of getting the field identification right (because addresses are formatted differently in differnt countires). The software can sync with Outlook - which includes adding an image of the business card to the Notes field. Compared with other business card scanners, this seems to be good value. I am using Windows 7 (64 bit) and Outlook 2010 and did not have any trouble installing the scanner and getting the software to work.

4.0 out of 5 stars Character recognition is its weakness.

Works very quickly and efficiently. The only issue I had with the scanner was the character recognition software was very inaccurate when it came to even the more simple cards. I had over 1000 cards to enter and the loading into the computer was quick and easy. If there are any cards with texturing or marbled looking backgrounds or pictures in the background it has a very hard time even detecting that there are even characters there to decipher, even when manually selecting the the words you are wanting to characterize it has a lot of trouble. Had to spend hours and hours just going through filling in names and business's manually.

5.0 out of 5 stars I LOVE THIS THING

I LOVE THIS THING! I am not tech savvy at all, but I was able to install this scanner and start using right away. It took me maybe 10 minutes to get it set up! The system is real easy to use. I love that you can make adjustments to the contact and it saves that update automatically! It is so smooth and easy! I still can believe how "smart" this thing is and how well it reads the cards. Sure it does miss a few letters here and there but that is due to the font of the card being scanned- either way this thing has saved me SO much time. I highly recommend it!

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Customer Care, but it did not fix problem

By Gary W Loganon October 17, 2014

The unit worked fine for the first 30 cards, then it seemed to change to scanning a higher resolution and only capturing 1/3 of the card. I tried uninstalling the software, reinstalling the software and nothing happened. Changing cords, even yelling at it, to no avail!I tried contacting the Penpower people, but had to leave messages and emails were not answered or acknowledged. I proceeded to the return option.About 4-5 hours later, Mr. Mick Huang sent an email with a link for an upgrade to the software. It did not work, I emailed that information to Mr. Huang and he called me almost immediately. With my permission, he took over my computer and worked for about 90 minutes trying to resolve the problem.Unfortunately, his work did not resolve the problem. I can not fault him for that.

My conclusion is that there is something wrong with the actual scanner. I immediately placed an order for another scanner, hopefully it will arrive on time, tomorrow.

5.0 out of 5 stars some without and it did a fairly nice job in translating

Nifty little card reader for the price and a snap to set up. I scanned a few of my business cards, some with graphics into my Outlook contacts, some without and it did a fairly nice job in translating. I didn't have to make many edits at all. Granted, I didn't scan in a ton, but just a few to try it out. I placed a call to their tech support to confirm a smooth scan into Outlook prior to purchase, and the support team was very enthusiastic to offer assistance. I'd say it's a great buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT card scanner for my needs!

Just got my WorldCardColor Color Business Card Scanner up and running on my Windows 8.1Lenovo Yoga 11S and it works EXTREMELY well for my needs! I had an older WorldCard scannerfrom years ago - but this is just light years better. Just sit and feed the stacks of cards into thescanner and off you go - super easy. My needs aren't elaborate - so if you must always have everysingle possible detail, probably NO card scanner will be perfect.... this one reads about 98% of whatI feed in without a single hitch. Those rare off reads I can easily edit. But it also stores the actualimage scan in the database complete with hand-written notes (which I'm prone to doing).

For most folks, I believe this would be all the business card scanner you'll ever need.

4.0 out of 5 stars World color card scanner

I purchased this scanner for no other reason but to have a digital image of each business card in a large stack and it does this very well. The scanner is easy to use, the software has many useful features and the OCR is not bad. If you use this to grab the text from the cards for organizing or to export to other applications then there will be a good amount of editing that needs to be done as the OCR does some unusual things. I don't think this is a problem with the software itself but more of a problem with the unlimited formats and fonts used on business cards. The software does a decent job considering the variations it has to work with, but like I said, there will need to be some editing for most cards. Provisions are made for two sided cards but only one side is scanned at a time. It does NOT scan both sides at the same time. The speed of scans is not bad, actually a bit faster than I expected. It will scan larger items as wide as you can fit in the slot and about 6 inches in length but the problem is I can't keep it in this mode for multiple scans. For larger than business card format scans it appears that you need to manually enter that mode repeatedly so if you have a stack of 4x6 pictures, there would be a lot of mouse movement and clicks for each pic. Lastly, it would be nice to have an option to just scan cards to a .jpg only and an option to do this using Linux. No support, hardware or otherwise, for Linux. Overall, though, not a bad package for doing what I needed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works Just Fine

By William B.on January 19, 2017

It works just fine, as other posters pointed out, when people get weird with company names, logos, etc, the reader has no way to sort out that mess, but even then, it will usually catch some tedious stuff, like phone #, email addresses, etc, so even on those it definitely saves time. Easy export to anything.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely great product

After losing the first one (somewhere in the office), and despite trying to find another better, compact, easy to use, feasible, colour based scanning, above average character recognition software business card scanner, I ended up with the same product again but a newer generation, and yes it is better than the earlier version of this product I lost a couple of years back. The scanning is quite quick, has batch wise mode and double side, colour based scanning option. Though the product is very good and there are many improvements compared to the earlier versions, wish Penpower had brought out some sort of option to carry the scanned cards database on the mobile as well, and sync it with the laptop or PC. For the price, it is an excellent product, and definitely better than all other products (have tried at least 3 other similar competitive products) in this category.

5.0 out of 5 stars Saved me a ton of time - would buy again

By S. Davison August 7, 2010

Within 2 hours, I installed, scanned and corrected 150 cards - I'm impressed. What it does well:Good text recognitionClear scans of cards which are saved to the recordSoftware is easy to use and learn quicklyNot so well:Doesn't recognize italics or script as textHas problems with cards with a lot of textureNeed to make sure cards are absolutely flat with no creases, bends, etcSoftware font is very small

I've had to go through about 80% of the records to check something, but it has still saved me a TON of time over typing these individually. For the price I didn't expect perfection, but am very very happy.
