The Durbin Amendment Explained
Every time you swipe your debit card, you draw into play the Durbin Amendment — a law that costs consumers an estimated $4 billion annually. The amendment, part of the 2010 Dodd-Frank law, sharply lowered debit card interchange fees — charges that stores pay banks when a customer makes a purchase. Supporters said the measure, sponsored by Democratic U. S. Sen. Dick Durbin of Illinois, would lower prices for consumers by cutting retailers’ costs. But when the rules took effect in 2011, big banks started recouping lost revenue — $14 billion a year, according to a 2014 Federal Reserve paper.

CD Rates Summary April 25, 2017Next week there will be another Fed meeting, but it should be uneventful. There’s no press conference after the meeting (which is scheduled to end on May 3), and no one is expecting a rate hike. The June Fed meeting is a different story. The odds of a rate hike at that meeting (scheduled for June 13-14) have increased since last week. According to this Reuters article:The Fed will probably be in a wait-and-see mode regarding fiscal stimulus. For the short term, economic news will be a more important driver. . . Broadway 2-for-1 Tickets Offers - 50% discount on tickets
Broadway show producers will often provide a special ticket offer which is priced at two for the price of one. The 2 for 1 ticket offer equates to a 50% ticket discount which is often the very lowest discount that a show is allowed to discount to, regardless of how much they would actually like to discount their prices to. The Shubert Organization sets the pricing structure for all Broadway shows that they sell through Telecharge (which is 80% of all Broadway theatres), so it's not up to the show producers themselves on how low their ticket discount can go.

A 2.5% high interest savings account sounds better than it is
The battle for your cash is on. A recent survey for the newly re-branded Tangerine found that 59% of Canadians expect a tax refund this year with 37% banking on a refund of $1,000 or more. It’s no wonder online banks including Tangerine as well as PC Financial have both announced 2. 5% promotional interest rates on new deposits until June 30 to coincide with tax refund season as well as the closure of Ally bank by RBC on April 30. While 2. 5% looks at least twice as good as the typical high interest savings account, I wouldn’t recommend moving your money because of it.

The sun rises over Jacksonville. Photo by Craig ONeal's Flickr, CC2. 0 Facebook- Twitter- More shares - Print Article It's been more than a month since we fell back to standard time, but if you're like most, you still probably haven't gotten used to the sky getting dark so early. Well, consider state Rep. Kristin Jacobs your new hero. The Broward County Democrat has introduced a bill that would keep Florida on daylight-saving time (DST) year-round. Because of its southern location, Florida has less use for DST than northern states.
